Am 24. Februar 2012 veröffentlicht EMI als abschließenden Teil der Katalogkampagne „Why Pink Floyd?“ die „Immersion“- und „Experience“-Editionen von Roger Waters' Meisterwerk „The Wall“, dem nach dem legendären „The Dark Side Of The Moon“ aus dem Jahr 1973 erfolgreichsten Album von Pink Floyd.

„The Wall“ erschien ursprünglich im November des Jahres 1979 und führte in den USA, Frankreich, Deutschland, Schweden und Australien die Charts an. „Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2“, Pink Floyds erste Singeveröffentlichung in Großbritannien seit 1968, avancierte zum Nummer-eins-Hit und verkaufte sich binnen weniger Wochen weltweit millionenfach.

Zwischen 1980 und 1981 inszenierten Pink Floyd das Album The Wall 31 Mal live auf Bühnen in den USA, Großbritannien und Deutschland. Es war eine der spektakulärsten Bühnenshows überhaupt, für die während der Performance eine über zwölf Meter hohe Mauer Stein für Stein am Rand der Bühne aufgebaut wurde. In den Jahren 2010 und 2011 ging Roger Waters mit einer neuen und von der Kritik gefeierten Bühnenproduktion erneut mit The Wall auf Tournee. Bei einer Aufführung in der Londoner 0₂-Arena im Mai 2011 waren bei der Show auch Gitarrist David Gilmour und Schlagzeuger Nick Mason dabei. Für das Jahr 2012 plant Waters weitere Aufführungen in der südlichen Hemisphäre und in Nordamerika.

Die sieben Discs umfassende „Immersion“-Edition von „The Wall“ enthält eine DVD mit einem Film über die Tour von 1980 und einer „Behind The Wall“-Dokumentation. Außerdem werden auf CD erstmals Original-Demoaufnahmen und weiterentwickelte Songentwürfe zu dem finalen Album von Roger Waters veröffentlicht. Zusätzlich zu diesen bislang unveröffentlichten Versionen sind hier erstmals David Gilmours Demoaufnahmen zu „Comfortably Numb“ und „Run Like Hell“ zu hören.  Das Immersion-Boxset enthält zudem „The Wall Live“, zusammengestellt aus Aufnahmen der ersten Wall-Tounee der Jahre 1980 und 1981.

Sowohl die „Immersion“- als auch die „Experience“-Edition enthalten eine seltene Aufnahme von „Another Brick In The Wall, Part 1“. Diese Demoaufnahme zeigt die Entwicklung zu dem endgültigen Stück auf und dürfte für die Fans ein Highlight sein. Darüber hinaus lassen sich in dem Stück „The Doctor“ die Ursprünge von „Comfortably Numb“, einem der Schlüsselsongs des Albums, nachverfolgen, wodurch sich die Demoaufnahmen von Pink Floyd aus einer weiteren Perspektive betrachten lassen.

Nach den „Immersion“- und „Experience“-Sets zu „The Dark Side Of The Moon“ und „Wish You Were Here“ bieten die neuen Versionen von „The Wall“ einen tiefen Einblick in ein weiteres höchst erfolgreiches Kapitel der einzigartigen Geschichte von Pink Floyd.

Nachdem Pink Floyd 1978 die Animals-Stadiontournee beendet hatten, entwickelte Roger Waters das Konzept zum Album „The Wall“. Das Album ist zum Teil autobiographisch und erzählt die Geschichte des fiktiven Rockstars Pink, der auf sein Leben zurückblickt und sich mit den Folgen von Ruhm und Erfolg auseinandersetzen muss.

Roger Waters präsentierte seinen Bandkollegen David Gilmour, Rick Wright und Nick Mason eine Reihe von Songentwürfen. Pink Floyd nahmen dann das Album „The Wall“ im Laufe des Jahres 1979 in Frankreich, New York und Los Angeles auf, begleitet von dem Co-Produzenten Bob Ezrin und dem Toningenieur James Guthrie.

Eine Besonderheit der Aufnahmesessions war die Hinzunahme von Schülern der London Islington Green School, die den berühmt gewordenen Chorgesang („We don't need no education...“) zu „Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2“ in Pink Floyds eigenem Britannia Row Studio in London aufnahmen. Dieser avancierte mit der Veröffentlichung der ersten Single zur weltweiten Erkennungsmelodie des Albums, das auf Anhieb ein riesiger Erfolg war, wozu sicherlich auch die bahnbrechenden Bilder des Promotionfilms beitrugen, darunter Gerald Scarfes brillant in Szene gesetzten marschierenden Hammern.

Das „The Wall Immersion Box Set“, die „Experience Edition“ sowie das Collector's 180g-Doppel-Vinylalbum von „The Wall“ werden von EMI am 24. Februar 2012 veröffentlicht. Die „Discovery“-Doppel-CD von „The Wall“ ist bereits erschienen.
